Sister Cities Mural

Look closely at color, friendship, and the story painted into Chris Salmon Plaza.
Find three shapes or colors, then make up a story about how they traveled here.
This mural at Chris Salmon Plaza was designed by OSU student Jake Warner to celebrate the friendship between Stillwater and Kameoka, Japan.
Chris Salmon was an architect who cared deeply about people and inclusive places. Look for the plaque nearby to learn more about her work.
Can you find the Japanese letters or characters? They mean “friendship.” Who are your friends?
Can you make big eyes like the dragon? Wasn’t that silly to try?
Why are there buildings at the top and bottom of the mural?
What is your favorite color in the mural?
- I spy red flowers. How many can you count?
- I spy a bird. Can you pretend to soar like a bird?
- Can you find buildings in two places on the mural?
- Point to the eyes in the mural and say “Eyes.” Point to your eyes, then your baby’s eyes.
- Find a bright, high-contrast color and name it out loud.
- Can you stretch and walk tall like a crane?
- Do you see any squares? Point to them as you count.
- The bird is flying over the city. What would it see?
- Cranes often stand on one foot. Count how long you can stand on one foot.
